Every person has a story to tell. History, unlimited tales of ghosts, adversity, personal fulfillment, beliefs...these are the people who are here-who have lived their lives in our town. Down their path... we go.
On one side on the Pembina Valley escarpment lays a small little family apple orchard. This was a very active orchard for years.
The family home is still situated along side the orchard. Last fall I had the honor of visiting this orchard.. That was the first time I met Jean. A lovely hard working icon of the family. Jean is in her later years, but not scared of the challenge of maintaining an acreage of apple trees. As we drove up to pick our apples through the bush came Jean on her quad, holding an apple box and a wooden apple ladder. She pulls up, props up the ladder and up she goes as she guides me on how to pick the apples the fastest and most effective. We featured these apples in the apple crisp at Timbers Restaurant. The strength of this rural woman and the years of challenge make these apples and this orchard an icon in our area.
